I can relate to so much of this. The mother relationship piece especially hit close to home, along with that pattern of feeling responsible for holding other people’s pain. It took me a long time to even recognize I was doing that, and even longer to begin learning that presence doesn’t have to mean carrying it all. This was beautifully expressed.

I also parented my parent growing up—it was completely normal. Now she is old and reverting somewhat to childish behavior. I have new boundaries but it is heartbreaking maddening and frustrating to feel this inverted dynamic, seen clearly now. Oddly, I also have dreams about caring for too many animals and being overwhelmed because I can’t keep up with it
